For two road weary travelers, The Country Cookery (CC) on the outskirts of Moncton, New Brunswick was the perfect beginning to what became a long day of driving. The CC can be found just four km from the misleadingly named tourist attraction Magnetic Hill. At the hill tourists actually form a queue and pay money to roll their cars downhill backwards. I found this to be more amazing than the very slight optical illusion presented by the lay of the land.

The eggs benedict served up at the CC were decent but clearly thrown together by someone who lacks my passion for the dish. The eggs received high marks for being perfectly cooked, and served hot. The hollandaise was beautiful in both color and texture, yet lacked its distinct and essential flavor. A little salt however went a long way. The Canadian bacon was excellent, but the portion was surprisingly small for what seemed to be such a generous restaurant. The English muffins were slightly undercooked.

All in all The Country cookery was a very pleasant experience. Though the bene was not the best I’ve had, the warm atmosphere inside the restaurant, and the pleasant wait staff, make this a likely return trip next time I’m en route to Nova Scotia.
